The Institute of Neuroscience (ION), Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is initiating a new drive for recruitment of laboratory heads at the Investigator and Senior Investigator level. Since its founding in 1999, ION has aimed to implement the infrastructure of a modern research institute that provides an environment for rigorous scientific pursuit and fruitful interactions, a merit-based system for promotion and funding, and a high-quality training program for graduate students. The Institute currently has 24 laboratories in various areas of molecular, cellular and system neurobiology (see www.ion.ac.cn) and plans to expand to 50 laboratories by 2020. Applications are invited for Laboratory Head positions in all areas in neuroscience, with particular emphasis in the areas of stem cell neurobiology, systems and cognitive neuroscience. Appointments of Investigator and Senior Investigator are equivalent to Assistant/Associate Professor and Full Professor, respectively, in research universities in the US. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent training, and significant post-doctoral research accomplishments. Successful candidates will be required to develop a rigorous research program and to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Competitive start-up funds, annual operating funds, salary, and housing benefits will be provided. Interested individuals should send a C.V., future research plans, a full list of publications and names and e-mail addresses of three references to Ms. Yan Wang (yw@ion.ac.cn), Institute of Neuroscience, 320 Yue-yang Road, Shanghai, China. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Please note that ION director and many faculty members will attend the Neuroscience 2011, the 41st annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, to be held November 12-16, 2011, in Washington DC, USA, as well as a NIH-China Neuroscience Symposium in the NIH campus, Bethesda on November 17 and 18th. They will be available for informal chats about research and job opportunities in ION. For these interested, please send an e-mail to Mr. Yi-Xi Gu (guyixi@ion.ac.cn) (together with a pdf file of CV) for appointment during the SfN meeting or the Bethesda meeting in Bethesda on November 17th and 18th.
